I wonder if anyone has any suggestions for me. We're using iBurst at a remote site where there's no ADSL (sadly) and 3G is simply too expensive. I can connect to the internet, and get into iburst's own website, google & gmail, but nothing else. I can't even ping www.iburst.co.za and the speedtest on their website simply times out. I could, however connect
I tried this modem at my house, where I know iBurst has worked before and it's currently in Fourways close to the mall, which supposedly has excellent coverage. It's connected to a broadband VPN router, and then to a PVR system, so I can't really see what the signal strength is but when I access either RDP, gmail, google or iBurst's website is super quick. Authentication is also very quick and I'm able to access the VPN router remotely without any issues.
The MTU is set to 1352, but I also tried 1349 (I think?) with the same problem

I'm just curious, why are some ISP's so difficult to work with?
We have a case with Hetzner, where one of their clients moved a few domains to us and it's been such a pain in the neck todo this smoothly. We've been trying to move these domains for about 2 months now.
First they say they'll release the domains, so we initiate the domain transfer and 4 out 17 transfer succesful. When our client queried this, they had all sorts of excuses about the transfer, but say they'll approve the remaining. 3 go through. And this patern keeps on 2 months down the line. 1 domain remains.

Another story:
Another client moved over to us, 3 years ago from Mweb. 2 months after the move their domain is still not deleted from the Mweb network, so whenever their clients (who uses Mweb as an ISP) can't email them (the emails goto the Mweb mailservers not ours). After many fights with Mweb, the client decides to leave the mail with Mweb. So they've been paying double for email hosting for 3 years now.

Yet another story:
A client moved over from @lantic to us, but their email to 3 of their clients who still reside with DataPro doesn't go through. I've been querying this matter for 2 weeks now, and all I get from DataPro is "Your mailserver is blocked", but no actually explanation as to why. How am I supposed to fix this if I don't know why it's blocked?

I am Hans Christian v. Stockhausen. In sunny Joburg as SAP consultant from Germany. I love SA, Linux, diving, programming, ...

At the moment I have 'terms & conditions' on my mind. Is there a generator one can use? I'll check the forum, but let know if you know of one or would like to give the legal input to write one.

Please give my new site http://www.domain-name-registration.co.za a try and let me know what you think. Domains are R75 (actually R50 during beta).
Thanks,
I hope someone can help with this one. A forum that I manage for a friend, http://www.perfectpictures.co.za has died down quite a lot. It used to be rather active, but not anymore.
The main purpose of the forum is photography, but it seems like another one has taken all the action. Does anyone have some suggestions for me to revive this forum a bit?

What are the odds. We wanted to goto the shops to get some material for my wife to make some stuff. It's after 3PM already and the material factory is a good 45minutes drive away with all the robots and traffic into town.

We can't drive my car cause it's empty and I know the garage will be a bit busy right now. Ok, no problem, use the other car.
Neither can we drive my wife's car since the battery is flat. oh boy...
Luckily my mom's 4x4 is still here, but doesn't want to start. what now? I pop open the bonnet and see the battery terminal came loose. Fixed it, started the car, ready to go.
The gate won't open. I'm sure I put in a new battery a few months ago, and the light comes on. Call the cleaning lady, her remote doesn't work either. I still used my remote yesterday. And to top it off, I can't find the key for the gate motor so I can't even override the motor. AARRRGG!!!! Something tells me we shouldn't go out today

I’m pretty sure I left it there (it being my cellphone, keys, wallet, document etc), but I’ve looked thoroughly and it’s clearly NOT there. However, that doesn’t stop me from checking the same place over and over again every few minutes, while muttering to myself in an undertone “I’m almost sure I left it here!”, just in case it decides to magically re-appear there out of sympathy.

Hi all,
Can anyone please tell me, from experience, if it's possible to upgrade the hard drives in a RAID 10 system from 250GB HDD's to 500GB / 750GB HDD's, while the server is running? The server runs CentOS 5.5 x64.
Our hardware vendors simply always say no, so we never actually tried doing this, and when a client needed an upgrade like this we had to build a new server with the same spec and larger hard drives and then migrate the data across, which can sometimes take a few days to complete (due to DNS & MAC address caches).
So, I'm wondering, is it possible (and safe) to upgrade the existing drives to larger drives in a running server?

I know we're done this with Linux's software RAID many times with great success. But I don't want to take a risk if it's not possible. The amount of effort and upfront costs for a new server makes hardware RAID far more expensive than it's reliability, which Linux's software RAID offers equally so I'm beginning to think we should just move all the servers to software RAID in the future as well.

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for a website (frontend) solution that can work directly with WHMCS. I do not know if WHMCS comes with a frontend for the actual hosting website or if there is a plugin or something that can work quite easily.

I did find J!WHMCS that works with Joomla. The reviews looks good but I am just wondering if there is another option.

Any suggestions?
