Hi,

I'm looking for a, preferably Open Source, web based project management application which has recurring tasks.

Let me explain:

Our staff need to run a lot of repeating tasks on client's websites on a monthly basis but it's a pain in the neck to try and do this with a spreadsheet, or even SugarCRM. One of the guys would be working on a specific client's project for a few months, and then when he's sick someone else needs to take over - but sometimes some of the tasks he performed get neglected.

SugarCRM's project management is, well, fairly basic. We can capture all the projects and currently list all the repeating tasks on the calendar, but that "interferes" with actual schedules (meetings, for example) and overflows the calendar to a point where some days just have too much data to quickly scan and process.

It would also be nice if a tech could automatically be sent an email when a task comes up to be performed, and the client gets an email once the task has been completed.

It's also very handy to attach documents (word docs, website templates files, images, etc) to projects for later retrieval - i.e. one tech does a job for a client now, but isn't with us anymore in a few years time and someone else needs to pickup where he left off.

Any suggestion welcome.

I am so proud to release my very own backup script. Its writtenin bash (or shell I never know) and basically copies a daily, 10day, 20day and 30day backups to a S3 account. This will transfer already created cpanel backups to a amazon web storage (or AWS S3) of your choice.

At the end of a 30 day cycle you'll have the following structure:

Pre-Install:

An Amazon S3 account, once setup go ahead and create a bucket. Then lots of tutorials, so I wont go into detail.
Once setup, go ahead and instal AWS found here: http://timkay.com/aws/ We'll be using one of the functions known as s3put. Please install it and follow the instructions to add the access key and ID etc.

Installation:

Open up putty login to your server as root
Copy the files ('counterfile' and 'rwsbackup.sh') below to '/home/tools/'
You can use the following commands:

pico /home/tools/rwsbackup.sh
This will create the file, without it actually existing yet.
Paste the rwsbackup.sh script below by right clicking.
Find bucket="my-backup" (line 45) and change the bucket name to one you have created.

this will 'write out' or save the file. use the name rwsbackup.sh
press

Ctrl + x

this will exit the file editor.
now we need to create the counterfile.

Add the following to that file:

I reccomend using 9 as the starting value so the first backup will also run the first 10 day backup, instead of waiting 10 days for the first backup.
Create the folder logs/ in the same directory

mkdir /home/tools/logs

Each days logs will be kept for 30 days, thereafter will overwritten by the newest file.
Now if you aren't already in the /home/tools directory, go there now:

Then lets see we have everything

Now we want it to run automatically after each cPanel backup has completed. So we'll add it to the post backup file:

Tollfreeforwading does this, for $40 you get 200 minutes and an 0800 number, but I wanted to know what other options there are.
