power saving for your business?

I found an interesting website, http://www.greenmart.co.za/fes.html which has some power saving devices, and it doesn't look too expensive.

Does anyone use any other power saving techniques / products?

I only use those gas bulbs, not the normal 100W ones. They are more expensive but I can see a drop in our electricity bill.

Hi Folks, Have had a look at the website mentioned in Rudi's link. Not to p*** on anybody's battery, but any qualified Electrical Engineer would take their claims with a pinch of salt. Many of their statements are completely meaningless:
* It also optimises the voltage and current demand...???
* thus reducing the active power (KWH) demands...??? (power is measured in KW, not in KWH)
* By monitoring the status of your electronic equipment...??? Really, I wonder how they do that?
* compensate for the power and high frequency waves...??? meaningless, IMHO
* improve the power parameter...??? Just as meaningless.
* Decreases the instantaneous protruding waves...???
* Stabilizes voltage and equalizes the current...???
* avoiding the waste caused by excessive thermal with high voltage...???

It is true that power factor correction is a technique commonly used in certain electrical installations, e.g. factories running electrical machinery, but reading their claims I would say that these guys haven't a clue what they're talking about.

sure, but this is just "good sales pitch"

Even though a lot of info is incorrect, people will still purchase it. The fact of the matter still remains that it could save you some money on the electricity bill.


All our light are not energy saving gas type bulbs and we save ave. 20 - 25% per month on that. I'm planning on installing solar for all our PC equipment, sometime in the future which should save even more power. As matter of interest, my mother recently moved into a place where they have those pre-paid electricity meters (getting more popular in town houses, complexes, clusters, etc these days) and her PC uses one unit per day! Ironically I recently installed an all-in-one motherboard with soldered-on Intel Atom CPU which doesn't even need a fan and runs @ 45W to improve power consumption, but it still costs her 1 unit per day. And she hardly uses the PC....

P.S. KWH = Kilo Watt per Hour, i.e how much KiloWatt a devices uses concurrently for a whole hour.

I also use power saving globs and save a lot of money. but I dont think this device will work that well, as Alpha pointed out.

Start using LED for light and Intel's latest CPU with low watts like 50watt... lol
